For several weeks now, Michael Jackson has appeared at No. 1 on a variety of Billboard charts. He has led some tallies with a number of his biggest hits, and the King of Pop has also managed to rule multiple rosters that focus entirely on albums. Jackson occupies the loftiest two spots on a pair of similarly-composed albums registers, and as his collections refuse to budge, he blocks one of the biggest names in R&B from returning to No. 1 with his latest project.

Michael Jackson Sits at Nos. 1 and 2 Again

Jackson currently sits at Nos. 1 and 2 on both the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top R&B Albums charts. The late superstar leads the way with Thriller, while his Number Ones compilation is steady at No. 2. Those mark the all-time highs for those titles on the rosters, which are compiled based on total consumption and which focus on the most popular hip-hop, rap and R&B titles and the most popular R&B-only albums, respectively.

Michael Jackson Blocks Chris Brown from No. 1

New at No. 3 on the two charts is Chris Brown’s semi-self-titled Brown. Had the multi-Grammy winner’s twelfth full-length on his own been released a little later in the year, it’s possible that Jackson’s current surge – fueled by the incredible success of his biopic, Michael – may have died down, and he’d have a better shot at running the show.

Chris Brown Adds Another Top 10 to His Catalog

Throughout his career, Brown has placed 10 projects on the Top R&B Albums chart, and nine of them, now including Brown, have reached the top 10. He’s been even more successful on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums tally. On that list, 14 releases have landed, and again, all but one release has risen into the loftiest tier. Brown claims a quintet of No. 1s on the R&B-only rundown, and eight leaders on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

Chris Brown’s Latest Ties His Collaborative Album

Focusing on that latter tally, Brown is one of a pair of efforts by the singer-songwriter to stall at No. 3. It is now tied with Fan of a Fan: The Album, a collaborative project with Tyga, as his only two efforts to peak in third place.

Highlighting just how successful Brown has been on Billboard‘s ranking of the most-consumed EPs and albums that fall under the hip-hop, rap and R&B genre labels, Brown is now tied as one of his worst performers, even as it becomes a top three winner. Only Slime & B, a team-up with Young Thug, stalled in a lower position, as it only ever rose to No. 15. A trio of full-lengths – Exclusive, 11:11 and Breezy – rose as high as No. 2, while the rest of the hitmaker’s studio LPs have led the charge.

Michael Jackson Leads With Thriller on Several Charts

Thriller appears on half a dozen Billboard charts, and it rules half of them. In addition to both the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top R&B Albums tallies, the Grammy winner for Album of the Year returns to the summit on the Vinyl Albums roster, leaping from third place. Both Thriller and Number Ones settle on the same six rosters, and they hold inside the top 10 on each and every one of those rundowns.

Michael Jackson Scores Five Wins on the Genre Charts

Jackson currently claims five appearances on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top R&B Albums charts. In addition to both Thriller and Number Ones, another compilation titled The Essential Michael Jackson, as well as the traditional LPs Off the Wall and Dangerous, continue to find space.
