It’s Groundhog Day — at least when it comes to New York’s healthcare heavyweights.
NYU Langone Health‘s Manhattan campus has once again been crowned the nation’s top comprehensive academic medical center by healthcare improvement company Vizient.
The ranking, released Thursday, marks the first time any health system has held the No. 1 spot in the category for five consecutive years, besting more than 120 institutions nationwide.
Vizient’s Quality and Accountability Study measures the performance of more than 1,000 hospitals and healthcare organizations across the US each year.
The organization evaluates them based on six key metrics: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient centeredness and equity.
Vizient then crunches the numbers using statistical analysis to determine which hospitals score highest overall.
“When patients look for the best place to receive their care, nothing matters more than quality and safety. Vizient understands that,” Dr. Alec C. Kimmelman, dean of NYU Grossman School of Medicine and CEO of NYU Langone Health, said in a news release shared with The Post.
“That’s why NYU Langone is exceedingly proud of our teams, whose shared commitment to the highest standards led to this incredible, repeated recognition.”
Langone placed strongly in Vizient’s other categories as well.
Its network of more than 400 ambulatory practices earned the highest rating among physician practice networks nationwide, out of 70 participating organizations.
At these outpatient medical facilities, patients can access primary, specialty and surgical care, as well as routine imaging and lab work, without an overnight hospital stay.
Several of NYU Langone’s inpatient facilities in Brooklyn and on Long Island also earned accolades in their respective categories.
Last year, Northwell Health, Hackensack University Medical Center and several hospitals within the NewYork-Presbyterian system including Weill Cornell Medical Center also joined NYU Langone with high rankings.
The Vizient ratings come less than two months after NYU Langone Hospitals landed a spot on US News & World Report’s Best Hospitals Honor Roll for 2026-2027.
The list highlights 20 medical centers that the digital media company says excel across a range of complex specialty care services, benchmark procedures, patient outcomes, nursing staff quality and patient experience metrics.
