Premier rehearsal facility Open Jar Studios expands in Times Square

Open Jar Studios, a premier rehearsal facility for Broadway shows, is stretching its legs to a nearby Times Square location.

The original 50,000-square-foot Open Jar at 1601 Broadway will soon be joined by a 40,000-square-foot complex in the Paramount Building at 1501 Broadway. The third-floor facility will add 17 spaces designed for rehearsals, auditions and training for theatrical artists.

Open Jar Studios will open a 40,000 square-foot complex in the Paramount Building at 1501 Broadway.

“This expansion comes at the perfect time as we’ve seen a major increase in creative development and the need for greater capacity,” Open Jar founder Jeff Whiting said.

The tenant was repped by Lincoln Property Company. Its senior vice-president of leasing, Jeffrey Rosenblatt, said that while 1601 Broadway’s 22-foot ceilings are suited to major shows, the new location at 1501 “will be for smaller studios that do not require the double height.”

The landmark Paramount Building, former site of the famed Paramount Theater, is over 90% leased — including to full-floor CityPickle, as we reported in February.

The original Open Jar opened in 2019 and hosted rehearsals for shows such as “The Lost Boys” and “Moulin Rouge!” Open Jar’s backers include the Shubert Organization and National Artists Management.
