A new young adult thriller romance from Mercedes Ron, the creator of the hit Culpables trilogy, has a release date and a teaser to draw her devoted fans. Prime Video has dropped the first clip from Enfrentados: Marfil (Drawn Together), the adaptation of the opening chapter of the popular Enfrentados duology.
The brief video offers a glimpse at the main characters of a story with higher stakes than Ron’s previous adaptations, pairing an intense romance with kidnapping, mystery and danger across two continents.
What Enfrentados: Marfil Is About
Marfil Cortés, daughter of a powerful Spanish business tycoon, is living a seemingly perfect life in New York when she is abducted and released under circumstances that remain unexplained. Her father responds by hiring the guarded and enigmatic Sebastian Moore as her personal bodyguard.
Despite her fierce independence and his professional distance, the two find themselves drawn to each other. As the story moves from New York to Spain and dangerous threats multiply, the world around them proves far more complicated than either expected.
Ester Expósito (Venus, Élite) takes on the role of Marfil Cortés, opposite Hugo Diego García (The Substance) as Sebastian Moore.
The supporting cast includes Eric Masip (Through My Window) as Iván, Pablo Molinero (A Private Affair) as Alejandro, Zoe Bonafonte (The 47) as Gabriela, Lluís Homar (Los Abrazos Rotos) as Logan, and Joaquín Ferreira (Club de Cuervos) as Ray.
Óscar Pedraza (Patria, Vivir Sin Permiso) directs from a screenplay by Sofía Cuenca (Culpa Tuya, Culpa Nuestra).
The Ron Effect
The film arrives on the back of a remarkable run for the author whose young adult Wattpad novels have become a global streaming force. The Culpables trilogy, based on Ron’s New York Times bestselling books, has been watched by over 100 million viewers worldwide, topping charts in more than 170 countries at launch, with over 90% of that audience coming from outside Spain.
That success cemented a wide-ranging multi-title deal between Ron and Prime Video, now known as the House of Ron, covering 10 book-to-screen adaptations. The partnership has already produced the Culpables trilogy, Dímelo Bajito (Tell Me Softly), the first film in the Dímelo series, and the English-language spinoff My Fault: London. Your Fault: London follows later in 2026.
At Prime Video’s inaugural International Originals London showcase in February, Ron spoke to what has made the collaboration work.
“It’s been amazing, we’ve been working for three years now, and I feel that Amazon trusts me and I can trust them,” she said. “Amazon really loves these kinds of (YA) stories and understand the fandom and respect them so well, so that’s why I think people are saying Amazon is making the best adaptations of books.”
Spanish-Language Content Fuels Prime Video’s International Push
The upcoming release reflects a broader commitment from Amazon MGM Studios to non-English language content.
At the London showcase, Kelly Day, VP of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios International, pointed to the Culpables numbers as proof that local stories can achieve massive global reach.
The streamer now offers subtitles and dubbing across more than 30 languages, with up to 36 subtitle options and 22 dubbed language choices available in 240 countries and territories.
At the same event, Nicole Clemens, VP of International Originals at Amazon MGM Studios, announced an expansion of the House of Ron partnership, confirming that Amazon MGM Studios is developing 30 sunsets para enamorarte, from Ron’s Bali series. It will mark the first U.S. adaptation of the bestselling author’s work.
A sequel, Enfrentados: Ébano, adapting the second half of the duology, has already been announced as the next entry in the growing franchise.
Enfrentados: Marfil (Drawn Together) premieres exclusively on Prime Video on September 9 in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
