They don’t want no scrubs — not on shelves, anyway.

Medical scrubs retailer Scrubs and Beyond dropped a bombshell today amid the ongoing national retail shrinkage saga — announcing the sudden shuttering of all of its physical store locations, shifting to a digital-only sales model.

The specialty clothier currently has over 115 stores across 30 states, including 9 locations in California, from Concord to Upland and Riverside to Fresno.

Medical uniform seller Scrubs and Beyond will close all its retail outlets — including nine locations in California.

“At this time, we’re unable to provide an additional comment regarding the closure of our retail locations. Scrubs & Beyond has made the strategic decision to wind down its brick-and-mortar retail locations and continue serving customers primarily through our online store,” the company said in a statement to TheStreet.

RTM Nexus CEO Dominick Miserandino told TheStreet that the the kind of product Scrubs & Beyond sales could have contributed to their shift to online-only sales.

“I’m thinking if it’s something that’s a fixed, not try-on product, repetitive, same uniform every time, people don’t want to go to a specialty shop anymore. They [want to] go on Amazon, find their thing, and be done with it,” he told TheStreet.

The news follows the announcement of other clothing retailers, including California-based plus-sized women’s clothing outlet Torrid, also closing stores and focusing on online sales.

The news of the mass closure comes amid an ongoing brick-and-mortar bloodbath, with many companies moving online, where they’re typically doing much better.

Online shopping has grown rapidly in the U.S. e-commerce sales in the U.S. total $299.6 billion in the third quarter of 2025, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

This is a 2.2% increase from the previous quarter and a 5.21% increase in comparison to the same quarter last year.

U.S. e-commerce sales hit a record high of $1.19 trillion last year,  a 300.67% increase from $297 billion in 2014.

Clothing is one of the most popular categories to purchase items online globally.

A report from Shopify shows that clothing sales generated $760 billion sales in 2024, behind only electronics.

“Features like virtual try-on, size guidance, style recommendations, and reviews reduce uncertainty and increase conversion. At the same time, e-commerce removes geographic limits, letting brands reach new customers without adding physical stores,” the report stated.

The California Post reached out to Scrubs & Beyond for comment.
