What could very easily be the biggest box-office success of the year – until Avengers: Doomsday arrives on December 18 – is web-slinging its way into theaters today. Preview showings of Spider-Man: Brand New Day kick off today with the full release on Friday, July 31.

The movie is something of a reset: Peter Parker has erased his existence from the memories of everyone in the entire world, including MJ, Ned and the rest of the Avengers (though I’m not clear if this also worked on Doctor Strange).

Spider-Man: Brand New Day picks up four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Peter Parker is now an adult living completely alone after asking Doctor Strange to erase all memory of his identity from the world to save the multiverse. A solitary hero now, Peter has devoted himself utterly to being Spider-Man, protecting NYC while struggling with isolation and the consequences of his sacrifice.

Obviously, he’s still going to be swinging into the lives of those he lost. You don’t even have to watch the trailer to know that’s going to happen, but here it is anyways:

Are There Post-Credits or Mid-Credits Scenes In ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’?

The big question at the end of any MCU film is whether to stick around after the credits. Sometimes there’s a quick stinger right after the movie ends. Other times we get a mid-credits scene and a post-credits scene. Some Marvel movies have like five secret scenes. But what about this one?

Spoiler-free:

  • There is no mid-credits stinger after the main cast credits.
  • There is one scene at the very end of the credits – but after the studio logos display. This is a trick to make you think there’s no scene, after all.
  • It’s relatively short and serves as a tease for Spider-Man’s future in the MCU, though it’s reportedly less of a massive cliffhanger than some previous Marvel entries.

So the question is, should you stick around after the movie ends? Most early feedback from reviewers and international audiences reveals mixed feelings about the scene and whether it’s worth staying for. This is not a “Must See” post-credits scene, in other words, though if your bladder allows it, you might stick around just to be sure. Here’s what happens if you’re not in the mood to stick around:

Spoiler warning below

The scene shows Ned Leeds’ Spider-Tracker detecting that Peter Parker is no longer on Earth. The display glitches, suggesting Peter is either somewhere in deep space or possibly another reality, setting up his next major MCU appearance. This seems like either a nod to Avengers: Doomsday which will feature literally every popular character and actor from the MCU whether or not they’ve been killed, grown old or otherwise been written out of the series as Disney and Marvel make one last-ditch effort to bring back wayward fans – or next year’s Avengers: Secret Wars.

Here’s the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer:

You should probably also watch the Avengers: Doomsday trailer:

Hey Cap, I thought you got old? What happened?

The cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day includes:

Lots of familiar faces, but also some fun new additions including Sadie Sink from Stranger Things, Tramell Tillman from Severance and Michael Mando from Better Call Saul. Obviously some spoiler territory here as well.

  • Tom Holland — Peter Parker / Spider-Man
  • Zendaya — Michelle “MJ” Jones
  • Jacob Batalon — Ned Leeds
  • Sadie Sink — Jean Grey (a surprise multiversal appearance)
  • Jon Bernthal — Frank Castle / Punisher
  • Mark Ruffalo — Bruce Banner / Hulk
  • Michael Mando — Mac Gargan / Scorpion
  • Tramell Tillman — Bill Metzger (a new supporting character)
  • Marvin Jones III — Lonnie Lincoln / Tombstone
  • Liza Colón-Zayas — NYPD Detective Jean DeWolff
  • Zabryna Guevara — Sheila Rivera (Department of Damage Control)
  • Eman Esfandi — MJ’s boyfriend

Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters today. I’ll be seeing it this afternoon so look for a review later here on this blog (follow!) and on my YouTube Channel (subscribe!) and let me know what you think of the movie on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. I hope it’s good.
