Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is projected to have another big turnout in its second weekend at the domestic box office.

Nolan’s blockbuster adaptation of Homer’s epic poem earned $123.5 million in domestic ticket sales from and another $140.2 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $263.7 in its first weekend frame July 17-19.

Now, with no new big studio films opening this weekend and a slight bump in North American theater counts from 3,919 last week to 3.942 on Friday, Nolan’s film is projected by both Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter to make $84.5 million in its second weekend frame.

If those projections hold, it will equate to a respectable 32% drop in business domestically during its second weekend from its July 17-19 opening. Box Office Pro is projecting a second weekend of anywhere from $75 million to $85 million for the Universal Pictures release, while Box Office Theory is being a bit more conservative in its second frame projection with a $70 million to $80 million forecast.

Starring Matt Damon as Odysseus, the Greek King of Ithaca, Anne Hathaway as his wife, Queen Penelope, Tom Holland as their son, Prince Telemachus, and Zendaya as the goddess Athena, The Odyssey drew steady crowds all week. By Thursday, the film earned $199.3 million domestically and $164.1 million internationally by Thursday for a running global tally of $363.6 million.

Even if The Odyssey finishes at the lower end of its projections, the film will easily blow past the $400 million mark at the global box office by Sunday, if not on Saturday.

‘Moana’ Is Projected To Hang On To The No. 2 Spot At The Domestic Box Office

After it was left in the wake of The Odyssey’s thundering debut last weekend to finish at No. 2 domestically, Disney’s live-action version of Moana is projected by Deadline to earn about $10 million in its third frame. That number would be good enough for the film to hold onto the runner-up spot again this weekend.

The trade publication also projected that Disney-Pixar’s Toy Story 5 will earn $9.4 million for a third place finish in the film’s sixth weekend in theaters, which would up its domestic tally to $447.9 million by Sunday.

Heading into the weekend with a global box office take of $966.2 million, Toy Story 5 is within striking distance of becoming the third film to cross the $1 billion mark globally in 2026 behind The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and the Michael Jackson biopic Michael.

Projected by Deadline to finish fourth domestically is Minions & Monsters with $9 million in domestic ticket sales. Should the trade’s projection hold, it will boost the Universal Pictures animated feature’s stateside tally to $154.7 million.

Bleecker Street’s filmed version of the Broadway sensation Hadestown: The Musical is projected by Deadline to earn anywhere from $7.5 million to $9 million from 1,944 North American venues for a fifth place finish in its opening weekend.

Another indie opening this weekend is the Independent Film Company’s revenge thriller Motor City. Featuring Reacher star Alan Ritchson, Motor City is scheduled to play in 1,600 theaters domestically this weekend.

Note: This box office report will be updated all weekend with the most current numbers as they become available. The final numbers for this weekend’s box office will be released on Monday.
