Filmmaker Curry Barker’s independent horror movie sensation Obsession stars Inde Navarrette in the key role of Nikki. What else has Navarrette starred in prior to her breakout film hit?

Obsession earned $24.8 million worldwide ($17.2 million domestically, $7.6 million internationally) in its opening weekend from May 15-17, an impressive feat considering that the film had an $1 million production budget, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film was acquired for “around $15 million” by Focus Features out of the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025.

Michael Johnston plays Bear, a music store employee who has a major crush on his co-worker, Nikki, but has never quite found the courage to tell her his true feelings. When Nikki tells Bear that she plans to leave town in a couple of weeks, he musters up the courage to come clean with Nikki about his feelings for her, but ultimately stands down once again.

Frustrated, Bear opens a gift he bought for Nikki — a mysterious novelty toy called the “One Wish Willow” — and wishes that she would love him more than anyone in the world. Before too long, Bear is granted his wish, and Nikki becomes dangerously obsessed with her new love and will go to dark places to prove it.

A year later, the actress appeared in a supporting role as the 15-year-old version of Ellie, the daughter of Adrienne (Sienna Miller) and Matteo (Diego Luna), in the mystery thriller Wander Darkly.

Also in 2020, Navarrette landed a role in a hit Netflix series that put her career on a path that eventually led to Obsession and audiences asking why she looks so familiar.

‘13 Reasons Why’ (2020)

Inde Navarrette joined the fourth and final season of the Netflix hit psychological mystery drama 13 Reasons Why, where she played Estela de la Cruz, the younger sister of the volatile Monty de la Cruz (Timothy Granaderos), a bully at Liberty High School in the fictional town of Crestmont, Calif. Navarrette played Estella in nine of the 10 episodes of Season 4.

In 13 Reasons Why, which began in 2017, Dylan Minnette stars as Clay Jensen, a Liberty High student who delves into the mystery of why his classmate and crush, Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) took her own life.

‘Superman & Lois’ (2021 to 2024)

Inde Navarrette starred as Sarah Cushing in all four seasons of the CW superhero series Superman & Lois.

In the series, Superman/Clark Kent (Tyler Hoelchin) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) return to Smallville, Kan., with their sons Jonathan (Jordan Elsass and Michael Bishop) and Jordan (Alex Garfin). Back in Smallville, Clark reacquaints himself with Lana Lang (Emmanuelle Chriqui), an old friend who becomes the town’s mayor.

Sarah Cushing is Lana’s daughter with her ex-husband, Kyle Cushing (Erik Valdez), who is Smallville’s fire chief.

After Superman & Lois, Navarrette played a supporting role in the Dave Bautista, Bobby Cannavale and Kate del Castillo crime thriller Trap House, where a group of teens plans to steal money from drug cartel trap houses after the death of a DEA agent leaves his family in financial ruins.

Rated R, Obsession, which stars Inde Navarrette, Michael Johnston, Cooper Tomlinson, Sarah Lawless and Andy Richter, is new in theaters nationwide.
