The full trailer for “You Can See Everything” dropped Wednesday, showing co-director Nathan Fielder making convicted Theranos scammer Elizabeth Holmes cry – and asking her rich husband whether he thought she was “scamming” him.
In the two-minute trailer, a taste of the three-hour documentary coming to theatres Oct. 16, Canadian comic Fielder is caught in awkward, up-close conversations with Holmes throughout her house as he lives with her for a month before she is sent to a federal prison in May 2023.
Set to eerie music and interspersed with clips of rolling waves on a California beach, Fielder observes Holmes in mundane moments, washing dishes in the kitchen near her baby – and also in bizarre interactions, sitting on the couple’s bed as Holmes lies down and her husband rubs her leg.
At one point in the doc, co-directed by Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, Fielder interrogates Holmes’ hotel heir husband, Billy Evans, in a whispered conversation in the kitchen, asking, “Weren’t you worried she was, uh, sort of scamming you?”
“100%, but what did she have to gain from me?” Evans answered.
Fielder bluntly replied: “Well, isn’t your family rich?”
“Yeah, I think that there’s, like, a lot of different levels of wealth,” Evans stammered.
In another scene, Holmes tells Fielder, “It took me a really long time to be okay with letting someone see me cry,” as a tear falls down her cheek.
The wide-eyed Silicon Valley scammer also repeatedly tried to assert her innocence throughout the film – despite being convicted of defrauding investors.
“I still have this weird feeling that there’s some things that I’m not seeing,” said Fielder, who seemingly moved into a room in Holmes’ house with his belongings.
Holmes replied: “That’s because I don’t have anything to hide.”
A synopsis of the secretive three-hour film reads, “Thirty-four days before she’s sent to prison, notorious Silicon Valley founder Elizabeth Holmes invites a skeptical film crew to document her every move.”
“What begins as an intimate portrait of an enigmatic felon becomes a mind-bending three-year journey into the abyss.”
A short trailer earlier released on YouTube went viral after online viewers pointed out that Holmes failed to blink in an unsettling interaction with Fielder, as she claimed she is “always being real.”
Holmes, the founder of the now-defunct blood testing startup Theranos, was convicted in 2022 on four counts of wire fraud and conspiracy for cheating investors – a scandal that has already been the basis of an HBO documentary and a Hulu TV series.
The fraudster was sentenced to 11 years and three months behind bars, and ordered to pay $452 million in restitution.
Holmes is currently serving time in a federal prison camp in Bryan, Texas. She is eligible for early release on Dec. 30, 2031.
Prosecutors said Holmes lied to investors from 2010 to 2015 by promising Theranos’ technology could scan for hundreds of diseases on a single drop of blood from a finger prick.
She has maintained her innocence and even lobbied President Trump to commute her prison sentence.
