Costco shoppers across California will have to cross one stop off their Fourth of July plans after the warehouse giant confirmed all its stores will be closed for the holiday, sending last-minute shoppers to rivals like Walmart, Target and Trader Joe’s instead.

The membership-only retailer will shut all its U.S. warehouses on Saturday, July 4, including its 142 California locations, according to Men’s Journal.

Costco shoppers across California will have to cross one stop off their Fourth of July plans after the warehouse giant confirmed all its stores will be closed for the holiday.

California has more Costco warehouses than any other state, accounting for about 23% of the chain’s U.S. footprint.

The closure is part of Costco’s longstanding practice of shutting down on a handful of major holidays each year, including New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

If you still need burgers, buns, ice, or other barbecue essentials, there are plenty of other places to shop.

Walmart and Target are expected to operate regular holiday hours. Whole Foods, Ralphs and other Kroger-owned grocery stores are also set to remain open.

Trader Joe’s will welcome shoppers, but close at 5 p.m. Aldi stores are expected to operate reduced hours, which may vary by location. Customers are encouraged to check with their local store before heading out.

Costco traces its roots to San Diego, where the original Price Club opened on Morena Boulevard in 1976, and has since grown into one of the country’s largest warehouse retailers.

The company describes itself as a “membership warehouse club, dedicated to bringing our members the best possible prices on quality brand-name merchandise.

With hundreds of locations worldwide, Costco provides a wide selection of merchandise, plus the convenience of specialty departments and exclusive member services, all designed to make your shopping experience a pleasurable one.”
