Seagate Technology Holdings plc (NASDAQ: STX) has announced a new and refreshed lineup of its consumer and prosumer hard drives across the Seagate, FireCuda and LaCie brands, including the Seagate One Touch desktop external hard drive, the Seagate FireCuda X Vault hard drive and LaCie’s 8big Pro5 multi-bay RAID storage solution.
Driven by sustained data growth created at the point of capture, the new range of drives is designed to offer more storage flexibility for applications like hi-res photos and video editing as well as the ever-expanding size of game libraries and the demanding creative workflows produced as more creators turn to AI content development platforms.
With prices of SSDs increasing almost exponentially, driven by AI demand, there is a renewed interest in proven hard drive technology, which can offer better value. As our storage demand grows and more files are archived, Seagate decided to update its hard drive portfolio to provide simpler operation, higher capacities and scalable performance, enabling users to stay productive and in control of their data without compromising on performance or scalability.
Portfolio Highlights
Seagate is offering higher capacity options across its range of portable, desktop and RAID storage with capacities up to 256TB. It also has the storage industry’s only bus-powered USB-C desktop hard drives that don’t need an external power supply.
Other developments include Thunderbolt 5 support for high-performance creative workflows, integrated backup, monitoring and Rescue Data Recovery Service. In addition, Seagate is introducing Toolkit, a user-friendly auto backup software to secure important files and data.
“From AI‑assisted creativity to massive game libraries and family memories, personal data is growing faster and lasting longer,” says Lance Ohara, VP, Edge IoT at Seagate. “People need storage that’s designed for this new reality – simple to use, built to scale, and ready for what AI brings next.”
One Cable Required
The Seagate One Touch offers everyday backup and is designed for personal use and backups. The Seagate One Touch desktop external hard drive provides basic, high‑capacity storage with easy setup and long‑term storage without hardware complexity or reliance on cloud subscriptions.
A single‑cable USB‑C connection provides both power and data to the drive, eliminating the need for external power adapters and reducing desktop clutter. One Touch will be available in 8TB, 20TB, 24TB capacities. It has drag-and-drop setup and file transfers, plus cross-platform compatibility with Windows and Mac. The package includes Seagate Toolkit, auto backup software and Rescue Data Recovery Service.
Seagate’s FireCuda X Vault is a high-capacity expansion product for gaming and streaming setups. It’s designed with gamers and streamers in mind who need to store game libraries as well as capturing gameplay, and streaming content, all applications that demand large amounts of storage.
Game On!
FireCuda X Vault is designed to complement internal performance drives, providing high-capacity desktop storage for organizing and storing large game libraries and archived content.
Using the same bus‑powered USB‑C design as One Touch, FireCuda X Vault offers plug‑and‑play expansion without wall power. Drives are available in 8TB and 20TB capacities and include customizable RGB lighting with Windows Dynamic Lighting support. The package includes Rescue Data Recovery Services, Xbox on PC certification and Xbox Game Pass trial
The last of the new products is the LaCie 8big Pro5. This is a professional RAID storage for users with advanced creative workflows like video and image editing. It’s aimed at creative professionals and production teams.
Thunderbolt 5 RAID
The LaCie 8big Pro5 is a Thunderbolt 5 multi-bay RAID storage product for creative professionals working with multi-stream 4K/8K video, large RAW image libraries, plus AI-assisted production environments. With high-capacity configurations, fast data transfer speeds, and enterprise-class reliability, it lets teams work at scale in studio or on-location environments.
Available in capacities of 32TB, 64TB, 128TB, 192TB and 256TB, the LaCie 8big Pro5 supports multiple RAID configurations for speed or redundancy, with Thunderbolt 5 performance up to 120Gbps of bandwidth. Speeds of up to 2800MB/s (RAID 0) are possible and there is up to 140W power delivery for laptops. The package includes RAID Manager and a five-year limited warranty with Rescue Data Recovery.
If you’re interested in the application of Seagate hard drives in a NAS setup, I reported on a system last year that used Seagate drives in a TerraMaster NAS enclosure. You can read all about that here.
